#### GROUPED
This is where we chunk the information on the mind map as outlined in the previous lesson.
#### REFLECTIVE
Here you reflect on the order control, just like with VPReFRE. Notice the order of the relationships, logic, concept and details to determine if it’s a good way that your brain understands the topic.
Your mindmap should fulfil the layers of learning and if it doesn’t, you need to take the opportunity to sort the information into its layers more clearly: **backbone/logic →concepts→important details→arbitrary details**.
This additional effort to make the layers clear is often missed by intermediate level students who struggle to improve.
#### INTERCONNECTED
Ensuring that your arrows are not in a single direction but are interconnected throughout because logic and concepts are not always linear in their relationships.
Good chunking creates often creates nice and simple branching, but good interconnectedness creates a web of concepts that seem to be dependent and influencing each other. There is a clear sense of purpose to the information. Good chunking with low interconnectedness will often look more like the points are _radiating out_ rather than an _interconnected web._ **Try to notice this during the subject-specific examples!**
#### NON-VERBAL
Make sure to use doodles, visuals and as little words as possible. The image will help you retain much more information compared to lines of words. We say non-verbal here rather than just visual because you should also explore shorthand and contractions that you can build as your own personal abbreviation system!
#### DIRECTIONAL
Have a flow of information and ideas in your mind map. This determines how logical your mind map is because it will show the cause and effect of all your points of information. You always need to be able to link the purpose of your information and relate it to the big picture as it will give you a sense of direction of learning.
This is highly dependent on how you are able to stick to your Aim step, problem-solving mentality and how solid your first layer of logic is laid down.
#### EMPHASISED
Making sure that the main concepts and relationships are easier to see. This may be through the use of different sizes, colours or fonts.
Though this seems like a minor point, it makes a significant difference to how quickly you can pick out the main logical layer vs the concepts vs the sub-concepts. This speeds up your revision time, as well as facilitating your brain’s ability to create relationships. Cognitively, it improves learning because it requires you to be extremely explicit about which concepts and relationships are the most important of all. Think of it like building mental highways and motorways.
